District nurses are an integral part of the NHS Workforce which make a difference, every day, to the lives of people they visit at home and in residential care homes in Wolverhampton. The team provides nursing care to patients, who are housebound, in the community, from the age of 18. This allows patient to have the best possible quality of life, while maintaining dignity and respect and preventing unnecessary hospital admissions. District nurses are highly skilled professionals who work in conjunction with other healthcare professionals, such as GPS, social services, specialist teams, to provide holistic, high-quality care.

Service Location and Operating Hours


District Nurses are based at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park, Technology Centre Building.
Operating hours are: 8.00am -8.00pm, 7days a week, including Bank Holidays.

Eligibility for Service


Wolverhampton Citizens, registered with a Wolverhampton GP, above the age of 18yrs Housebound patients’ clinical needs:

  • Medication administration inc PEG/IM/SC (excluding IVs – Hospital at Home)
  • Diabetic patients on insulin
  • Chronic Wounds / Pressure Ulcers / Simple wounds
  • Compressive Therapy and ABPI assessments
  • Urinary Catheter care and maintenance
  • Bowel Care
  • End of Life/unstable Palliative Care – including syringe drivers (link – Stable palliative patients via Virtual Ward)
  • Complex patients management
